The Damned release their first single 'New Rose' on Stiff records. This is acknowledged as the first UK punk release by any of the New Wave of Punk bands

November 8th Buzzcocks play at 'The Band on the Wall' a pub/ jazz club in Swan street, Manchester. Howard Devoto introduced the band as ' Buzzcocks, the best in good food' . This name was later used for a bootleg album title. This gig was given a short review in NME later in the month.

November 10th In their search for suitable venues, Buzzcocks and their manager Richard Boon booked the Electric Circus in Collyhurst , just north of Manchester city centre. This club which had been putting on rock and heavy metal acts, was a rundown, former cinema in the middle of a housing estate . From this time on until its closure in late 1977, the Circus held regular punk gigs almost every Sunday night. In this environment, the punks were face to face with violence which anti-punk stories in the popular press was beginning to engender. Away from the confines of art college events and theatrical scuffles , this violence was all too real an occurrence for many people making their way home after gigs.
Tonight, Buzzcocks were supported by Chelsea who in this early incarnation had both Billy Idol and Gene October in the band. Many of their songs were later used by Generation X.
Mark Perry of Sniffin Glue was at the gig and commented on how the Manchester audience 'looked like they'd just stepped off of a football terrace.' At this time, Manchester had no equivalent to Seditionaries on Kings Road or Acme Attractions so fashion was completely home made or ignored. People adopted the punk attitude and many cropped long hair but few if any at this time conformed to what was to become 'punk style'. It was to be later on that Roxy, and the other punk stalls appeared in and around Manchesters underground market. The northern view of the Chelsea/Sniffin Glue entourage was how vain they were. Jon the Postman recalls them spending more time preening in front of the large mirrors on the club's walls than watching the bands.

November 15th The Sex Pistols play a special gig at the Notre Dame Hall off Leicester Square in London. It is filmed for London Weekend Television and introduced by Janet Street-Porter. Edited to half an hour in length this show features several songs and an interview with the band and fans. There is also a reasonable quality bootleg of the full gig which includes all the songs which comprised the late 1976 set.
